[হিমনীশ গোস্বামী কে জানিনা - হিমনীশ গোস্বামীর নাম আগে কোনদিন শুনিনি দেখিনি - হিমনীশ গোস্বামীর বাপের নামও শুনিনি - এইমাত্র আমি Google search করলাম কিন্তু হিমনীশ গোস্বামী নামের কাউকে খুঁজে পেলাম না - একজন প্রয়াত ব্যক্তির নাম পেলাম - হিমানীশ গোস্বামী - বানানটা হিমানীশ not হিমনীশ - বইটা আবার খুলে দেখলাম - the FUNNY story "পূজা সংখ্যা বনাম প্রেস" is printed on pages ৩১৮-৩২২ of the book and the writer's name near the title of the story on page ৩১৮ is spelled হিমনীশ গোস্বামী - but the writer's name in সূচিপত্র (table of contents) is spelled হিমানীশ গোস্বামী !!! You can see why I hesitate to write the name of the publisher which can be a fake name like the fake names হিমনীশ গোস্বামী and হিমানীশ গোস্বামী !!! India is a land of 420s in every field ! - G - April 5, 2022]

There is a ridiculously funny story on p. ৩২০-৩২১ of the above entertaining collection of extremely funny stories in Bengali - exaggerated for humorous effect - about a Bengali writer who is pursued by a very angry magazine editor but managing to escape from the high floor of his flat by using a rope দড়ি to climb down to safety! (I hesitate to write the name of the publisher printed on the title page of the book because the publisher's name may be fake though I have noticed that the book is mentioned by Google sources and the book cover shown is identical to the cover of My copy of the book. I don't know if "Mitra & Ghosh" is the real name of a publisher of Kolkata or just a funny joke. Maybe just a few copies were printed and I happened to buy a copy! Google sources may not all be reliable. For example, Boi Adda Liquor Cha and Kotha o Kabita interviews in Bengali available on YouTube are supposedly held by onetv which seems to be a joke. - G)

Nigel Akkara aka Vikki (Nigel is pronounced - Ni as in Nigeria - নাইজেল नाइजेल NYE JEL; NYE as in BYE BYE; gel is pronounced JEL as in gel pen pronounced JEL pen) was imprisoned on 17 charges including kidnapping, extortion and murder (and r. too, I am sure), and after his release from jail after spending 9 years in prison, he married the jail warden's daughter and became an actor and also a human rights campaigner. (Google). A dramatic cinematic story... Nigel - नाइजेल - নাইজেল - not in jail now - নাইজেল - এখন নাই জেল !

Nigel Calder 

Nigel Calder was editor of New Scientist from 1962 to 1966. His father was Ritchie Calder, also a science writer. (I remember purchasing and reading a fascinating book on science by popular-science writer Ritchie Calder many years ago.)

In the preface to AN ELEMENTARY SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL DICTIONARY by W. E. Flood and Michael West (third edition), a very interesting dictionary of science which explainis scientific terms in very simple words and can be easily understood by anyone (it is so easy that it reads like a story book), W. E. Flood writes:

This dictionary, first published in 1952 under the title An Explaining and Pronouncing Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Words, is intended to help the general reader who seeks explanations of scientific terms which he may meet; it does not aim to provide delimiting definitions for the scientific expert.

In this revised edition the type has been completely reset. The opportunity has been taken to check the original text and to remove any errors or obscurities. About 250 new terms have been added. Some of the illustrations have been redrawn and a number of new ones provided. A full list of the chemical elements is now included as an appendix.

I am indebted to Mr. Nigel Calder, M.A., who selected the new items from the great number of new terms which have appeared in recent years and checked the explanations of them. He also made useful criticisms of the original text.

In the preface to An Explaining and Pronouncing Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Words by W. E. Flood and Michael West (first edition), the authors write:

The authors set themselves the following rules:

1. Every explanation must be clear to a person who knows little or nothing about the particular subject. (Entries were tested and re-written as many as ten times to comply with this.) 

2. An example must always be given, and also a picture or diagram wherever it may be of any assistance.

3. Every explanation must be of such length as is necessary to give an adequate idea of the meaning (sometimes a page, or more, may be necessary); but this book is not an encyclopaedia; it deals with words not subjects.

4. Special attention must be given to word-elements (roots, suffixes, prefixes, etc.) so that the reader may be enabled to break up and interpret new scientific terms for himself.

5. Words should not be included which are adequately explained by an ordinary dictionary.

6. No word may be omitted because it is too difficult to explain but only because the explanation would take more space than is justified by its importance.

The explaining vocabulary used in this dictionary consists of about 2,000 words; 60 of these are definitely technical (see below). An excellent analysis of the terrifying poem MY LAST DUCHESS by Robert Browning. (I don't know if the poem was really written by Robert Browning or was recently written by a male or female ghost writer who used the pen name "Robert Browning". - G). Unlike the Duke in the poem, I think God would have given the Duchess the freedom to exercise her free will and smile at anybody and everybody, etc. (you know what I mean by etc.). No female, no matter how "sexy", is so important as to get emotionally upset about. There are an infinite number of substitutes if One is looking for substitutes at all - but One can do without any substitutes, remembering that all are potential femme fatale ass. I was watching a YouTube video this morning on Realme Pad (tablet) kept on My desk when My spouse entered My study with loochi/poori and curry plus a cup of hot milk (I insist on milk every day for nourishment to compensate for lack of nourishment and lack of taste of cold food taken out from the fridge by spouse on a daily basis) when she saw Me watching females on YouTube and told Me rather insultingly: "These women don't give You food - I give you food!" (She has made this insulting remark several times before, too.) I told her with suppressed anger in My voice: "I am not watching rendeez [pr.] but listening to discussions on literature!"

I am fortunate that I had the best moral guide for Me - My "late" "dad" Krishna Sinha - who was morally astonishingly clean and pure - a wonderful inspiring ideal for Me - I have never met anyone like him - he never once chided Me but held Me in silent respect - it seemed to Me that he was constantly hunted and pursued and kept a low profile - he had great reverence for God and it seemed to Me that he could feel His presence in his vicinity - his greatest contribution to My life was the excellent training he gave Me to stay way from honeytraps - he NEVER pressurized Me to study hard and NEVER told Me to do well on My examinations (UNLIKE the father in the above recitation) - he never betrayed Me - he was the only person I trusted (apart from the invisible ET scientists). You should completely trust only yourself and God. I too completely trust only Myself and God (and invisible ET scientists).

I follow the dictum of physicist Niels Bohr that a true scientist is able to make bizarre speculations and it is in that spirit that I often practice/practise making bizarre speculations about the past lives of some people close to Me such as My "late" "dad" Krishna Sinha which are NOT based on facts known to Me and these speculations may not match their personality as I have observed in their latest reincarnations. (An individual may have clones who may be good or bad depending on the environment in which they grew up AND the circumstances they have passed through in their lives. Joseph Stalin may have been FORCED by Peter Satan and his gang of evil Nazis to SIGN the order for MASS MURDER of Jews in Russia. It seems that some American males and females are parodying British accent as a joke and they are using fake British accent in their videos on YouTube e.g.

I don't remember his 5 easy steps because I could not focus on his content but got distracted by his amusing British accent. (I don't use the "superior" "upper caste" phony British accent invented by swindler Peter and used by "superior" British "royalty" and British "lords" and "ladies" and "BBC" idiots to try to show their "superiority" but instead I use standard Received Pronunciation (RP) not to show off and "impress" My listeners but to make it easy for My listeners to easily understand My very clear RP English pronunciation. Unlike the pathetic hoi polloi, I don't feel the need to try to show off and impress others, you know why I don't feel the need. - G)

THE DIVINE COMEDY by Dante 

I suspect that THE DIVINE COMEDY supposedly written by 13th century Italian poet, philosopher, and writer Dante Alighieri was actually written recently by a smart scholarly modern ghost writer (probably a top female multilingual ghost writer) who used the Italian name "Dante Alighieri" as his/her pen name (which is popularly shortened to Dante) and reminds Me of the funny short story THE OPEN WINDOW by Saki. A thriller by Dan Brown is INFERNO (which is also the name of the first part of THE DIVINE COMEDY by Alighieri Dante). I believe that the smart scholarly multi-lingual "ghost writer" (who has perhaps got REBORN many, many times over billions of years) who uses the PHONY name "Alighieri Dante" has lots of FUN enjoying the fact that he/she keeps fooling readers and serious students and literary scholars with his or her practical joke! Alighieri - allegory! Virgil is connected to Virgin! Homer sounds like humor/humour - it is very likely that Homer (a supposedly "blind" author) is the pen name of a smart modern male or female "ghost writer" and that the famous Greek "epics" ILIAD and ODYSSEY were written by him or her relatively recently! Again and again I am reminded of the witty short story THE OPEN WINDOW by Saki (H.H. Munro - H.H. is short for Her Highness? Saki from Rubaiyat by poet "Omar Khayyam"! - a smart modern ghost writer?). Inferno - in furnace! I feel the need for a simple summary and a CLEAR interpretation of The Divine Comedy by Dante. It seems to Me that practically no one has really understood The Divine Comedy - most readers and literary scholars who talk about it have either not read it or have read it superficially without understanding it, getting bogged down by details and missing the point entirely. I think I should search for and buy and read interesting and helpful guides to The Divine Comedy such as CliffsNotes, SparkNotes etc. Of course, because of their cowardice and/or lack of divine knowledge, I don't expect that anyone else will give a blunt and honest interpretation of The Divine Comedy like the interpretation given by Me below:

It seems to Me that The Divine Comedy is about the invasion of Earth billions of years ago by the evil gang of Nazis of the sun, moon, and planets led by the evil Nazi Trinity - Satan, John, Peter - and torture of male and female humans in underground NAZI HELL inside Earth for billions of years and THE VIOLENT DESTRUCTION of the evil Nazi Trinity and their entire gang of evil Nazis on and inside Earth by God. - G

The girl cheat's name Vera is connected to the Latin root VER - truth - found in words like verify etc. (A very interesting book that will teach you a very easy method of understanding and remembering new English words just by looking at the KEYS or roots and prefixes and suffixes in English words is INSTANT VOCABULARY by Ida Ehrlich published by Pocket Books / Simon & Schuster which I bought many years ago when I was a college student and still have. Recently, I bought another copy of the book from a local bookstore and I also bought from another local bookstore a low-priced Indian reprint with the author's original American name Ida Ehrlich (a pen name, I am sure) changed to an INDIAN name, "Amitav Sengupta, University of California," for the Indian market, Bongs being regarded in India as "intellectuals" and Hollywood being in California, so a popular name in India. I don't think the Indian reprint with an Indian name for the author is a cheap pirated edition but I believe that it is the author's own idea; I speculate that the highly talented English teacher was an "American" female - Ms. X/Pamela? - "NL"? - who transformed herself into a younger "Indian" version as a female Indian "reincarnation" who has probably lived for many years in Nazi world capital Guwahati where I live. - G)

Shaon শাওন, the second wife and widow of late Humayun Ahmed (he and his first wife had a divorce; he married again and she too remarried), seems to be a well-known Bangladeshi actress.

About a year ago, I watched a short Hindi movie on YouTube where the "hero" Satan (he looked like BM Raja/Salman Khan) FAILS TO MURDER the "heroine" (played by Meher Afroz Shaon) but gets murdered himself.

I could not recall the name of the short Hindi movie I had watched - and so I searched YouTube under "Bangladeshi actress Shaon in short Hindi movie" but could not find it - I searched Google but found no reference to the short movie but instead read some Google sources which referred to Meher Afroz Shaon in porn videos - I did not watch the porn videos because My present aim is to find the name of the short Hindi movie - maybe I will watch them later to check if it really Shaon - of course the girl in the porn videos could be a clone who looks like Shaon. (I have just clicked one such Google source claiming to show porn video of Meher Afroz Shaon - it asked if I would allow communication with a doubtful source - I denied permission - I did not get to watch the porn video - if indeed the source contains a porn video of Meher Afroz Shaon. Not interested - all v. are the same to Me. No big deal. Maybe there was no porn video. Maybe the bad intention of the source was to malign her image. Doesn't matter to Me if she is or is not a porn star. All females are pr.: some publicly, some privately. No big deal. - G)

SHORT STORY

CYNTHIA

When I was a graduate student in the department of physiology and biophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, there was an American girl, by the name of Cynthia Katherine Hammonds, also a graduate student (in the department of architecture), who stayed in the room opposite mine in the multi-storied hostel for graduate students. Do not be alarmed: the arrangement of rooms in the hostel is shown in the adjoining diagram, with two women sharing a common bathroom, and two men similarly sharing a common bathroom:

Now it so happened that Cynthia grew fond of me. How did I know? She must have noticed that I was a “shy”, serious student who never spoke to women on the campus, nor in the hostel. One day, when all the rooms on my floor were closed and nobody was visible in the long corridor, I happened to notice that she had written:

                                               

                                        Oops!

 

on the message-pad on her door. I was curious. I read the name on the door: Cynthia Katherine Hammonds. My intuition told me that “Oops!” was addressed to me.

 

I looked up the telephone directory in my room (there was a telephone in every room in the hostel, with a telephone directory listing the telephone numbers of residents of Urbana and Champaign and all graduate students in the hostel). I discovered from the telephone directory that Cynthia was a graduate student in the department of architecture.

 

 Next day, she wrote on her message-pad:

 

             After all, I suffered for you today.

 

Those were the sweetest words I had ever read in my life.

 

Soon, I received conclusive confirmation of my guess that Cynthia had fallen in love with me. One evening (it was a cold January evening), as I returned to the hostel after a visit to a bookstore, I opened my door and went in, but left the bunch of keys outside, forgetting to take in the keys. Soon there was a knock on my door. I opened the door: a young woman in blue uniform (a member of the hostel staff) told me, “Sir, you have left your keys on the door.” I thanked her, and took my keys. NEXT DAY, I saw written on Cynthia’s door:

 

                           Don’t forget your keys!

 

Well, of course, I never spoke to her – indeed, I did not even know what she looked like. I left the university soon after, because my research interests lay elsewhere (not aging in insects, but resuscitation) and biology at that time seemed too un-mathematical to me. I went to Chicago and joined the department of mathematics, statistics, and computer science at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a graduate student.

 

I regret to this day that I do not even have a mental picture of what Cynthia looked like. My wife is convinced that she must have been a fat, ugly woman. I hotly deny this. My wife is not convinced. Women can be so cruel. I feel so hurt and insulted. I tell my wife that I hope at least that Cynthia is alive (God bless her!), although I have no hope of ever locating her, never mind the Internet. She must have got married long ago, after all, and changed her suffix.

 

If only I knew what Cynthia looked like, if only I had a mental picture of sweet Cynthia …. 

(Published in The Sentinel Sunday magazine mélange, published from My home town Guwahati. Two funny sketches were added by the magazine. When I wrote this true short story, I did not think of the possibility of multiple body transformations and did not suspect that "Cynthia" could be a honey trap. Oops!)

I hope the above short story will not be thought of as an illustration of My habit of not giving too much importance to females - বেশি পাত্তা না দেওয়া - বেছি পাত্তা নিদিয়া - ज्यादा पत्ता नहीं देने का - the truth is that the thought of romance and s. in the modern manner did not cross My mind - I did not have a single pre-marital GF, neither in India nor in America - I don't feel obliged to follow the hoi polloi (यानि crowd यानि the masses).

Paradise Lost is always to be classed with Dante's Divine Comedy, with which the young Macaulay compared it in his well-known essay on Milton. There was a day when English critics, notably Dr. Samuel Johnson, disparaged the verse of Paradise Lost as rude and inharmonious, but the verdict of time has been that its cadences are the most majestic and beautiful that have fallen upon English ears.

RED LETTER DAY

Today is a RED LETTER DAY (idiom) for Me - for the first time ever, thanks to young Sunny (teenage son of one of My 4 bros.-in-law, who are all younger than and devoted to My spouse, who has no sister, older or younger, thank God - i.e. I have no sister-in-law - what a relief, right?), I confirmed to My great delight that My Anchor podcasts really exist and I also learned how I can listen to My own podcasts and how others can listen to My podcasts. 

I learned that anyone who wants to listen to My Anchor podcasts MUST have an Anchor account! (just as you must have a gmail ID to use Google, Play Store, YouTube, a Facebook account to use Facebook, etc.) To listen to My own podcasts, I should open the Anchor app installed on My smartphone or tablet and click Your Podcast at bottom right (head symbol) - anybody else who wants to listen to My Anchor podcasts should open his or her Anchor app and click Discover at bottom left (headphones symbol) and search under My podcast name podcastksinha! For recording and publishing Anchor podcasts, you have to click Tools (+ symbol) - I knew this of course! (Anchor podcasting app is free.) I used My PC to give red color/colour to RED LETTER DAY!   

Sunny has just shown Me how My Anchor podcasts can be found and heard on My PC by typing My Anchor podcast URL: fm.anchor/kishalay-sinha5 on My PC (personal computer). - April 15, 2022 - another RED LETTER DAY for Me. By the way, it is axiomatic that the quality of the recorded sound and the quality of the sound heard will depend on the quality and price of the recording devices - the sound quality usually being directly proportional to the price, I think. Podcasting is just a hobby for Me and not a money-making profession. That is point number ONE. And point number TWO is that I have to do strict budgeting, even with pure spartan living without (pleasure-giving?) time-wasting money-wasting activities - sans smoking, sans drinking, sans taking drugs, sans gambling, sans running after s. gals (s. girls or s. women), sans "visiting" pr. - SANS means without, as in the poem LA BELLE DAME SANS MERCI by Keats... I noticed yesterday that there are weird GK videos on YouTube which answer weird questions like what is the position when milk comes out: Ans. doggie position. So unthinkable. - G (April 15, 2022)

I am confused about the present identities of Ms. X/Pamela/B. and Ms. Z vis a vis Mary, Margie, Debbie mentioned in WORD POWER MADE EASY by Norman Lewis and about past and present identities of ghost writers vis a vis Norman Lewis and Dr. Wilfred Funk and "Shakespeare" and Bernard Shaw and Dr. Isaac Asimov and Aldous Huxley and Chekhov and Eve and "Virgin" Mary and Mary Shelley and pr.
